Scott Tennent Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Spiderland

This week officially marks the 20th anniversary of Slint’s album Spiderland. Celebrations are being held all over the world and music bloggers are blogging their hearts out, gushing about how the album has impacted them.

Our very own 33 1/3 author Scott Tennent was featured on the "Posted" radio program on Australia's RTR FM 92.1. “Posted” did a 2-hour show dedicated to the anniversary and Tennent’s interview is mentioned throughout. Congrats to Slint and Scott and all Spiderland lovers the world over. If you would like to listen to the whole program, please visit this link: http://www.rtrfm.com.au/shows/posted

SXSW + Fleshtones = Sweaty good times

Joe Bonomo will be talking about the Fleshtones and his book SWEAT at South By Southwest on March 18 1 pm, at the Austin Convention Center (500 E Cesar Chavez, Ballroom D Foyer).

Rumor has it that a Fleshtone or two will also be in attendance (they'll also be playing a showcase later that night).

Check out Joe's blog for more details.

Ween alert in Brooklyn!

On Sunday, March 20th, Hank Shteamer will be launching and talking about his 33 1/3 on Ween's Chocolate and Cheese at Word Books in Brooklyn. There will also be a screening of some sort, though I'm not sure at this point what that will involve...

RSVP on the facebook event page here. And click here for more information from the good folks at Word.

If you'd like to read an excerpt we posted on the blog a few weeks ago, click here.

Also, just to give you a little advance notice, Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene (my neighborhood bookshop!) will be hosting Hank (Ween) along with Bryan Charles (Pavement-Wowee Zowee), Daphne Carr (Nine Inch Nails-Pretty Hate Machine), and Christopher Weingarten (Public Enemy-Nation of Millions) on April 7th. Mark your calendars.

Speaking of Ft. Greene, Happy Biggie Day everybody. Where Brooklyn at?

M. Henry Jones, The Fleshtones, Sweat, and the Wall Street Journal

I meant to put up a post about this yesterday, before the event, but it's still a great read nonetheless.
The Anthology Film Archives aired a comprehensive screening of M. Henry Jones's film work on Thursday night, and the Wall Street Journal did a nice write-up of the show, focusing on his video for "Soul City" by the Fleshtones. Joe Bonomo, author of our definitive biography of the Fleshtones, Sweat, is quoted several times in the piece.

The 400 Blows

I like to imagine this happening on stage as a drum solo.

via WFMU's Beware of the Blog (it's worth mentioning that their fundraising marathon is going on right now, and we donated some 33 1/3s as premiums!)
